Jelgava New Theatre production Sophocles “King Oedipus”

Sophocles “King Oedipus”.

A tragic crisis in one part.

Oedipus wisely and justly rules Thebes after saving the city from ruin by solving the Sphinx’s riddle. Before his arrival, the ruler Laius was murdered, but the killer remains unknown.

When plague strikes Thebes again, the gods foretell that the misery will not end until the murderer is found and driven out. Oedipus will do everything to find him, unaware that in searching for the killer, unknown facts about himself will be revealed, and he will have to face a deep personal crisis, which is a humanly inevitable part of every journey in search of oneself.

A story about the path to the truth at any cost. This time the cost is very high.
