Movement Laboratory

Workshop

“Movement Laboratory” is a creative and artistic movement process where people with different life and bodily experiences come together.

  • 📅On Saturdays, from
  • 03/10/2026 to
  • 13/02/2027, 11:30–12:30

Participation is free for people with Parkinson’s disease and their accompanying persons.

Other interested visitors are also welcome to join “Movement Laboratory”. A museum admission ticket is required to participate.

🔗 To take part in the session, please register in advance.

The sessions are specially designed for people with Parkinson’s disease, their family members, relatives, and friends, but anyone who wishes to explore movement together, take part in a creative process, and meet other people is welcome to join.

“Movement Laboratory” is not movement therapy or a therapeutic session. It is an artist-led practice in which movement becomes a way to be together, collaborate, experiment, and experience one’s body in a new way. The sessions use creative and cognitive movement tasks, movement improvisation, as well as balance and coordination exercises.

The movement sessions are led by choreographer Alise Putniņa or Eva Kronberga.

About the origins of “Movement Laboratory”

“Movement Laboratory” was created within the cultural and health micro-qualification program “Culture and Health: Managing Cross-Sectoral Initiatives”. The program was implemented in collaboration between the Latvian Academy of Culture, Riga Stradiņš University, the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and the Northern Dimension Partnership on Culture.

The program invites professionals from the cultural, health, and social sectors to develop interdisciplinary skills and to create projects in practice that use culture and art to promote social inclusion, participation, and well-being. “Movement Laboratory” is one of the pilot projects developed within this program, which previously took place at the National Library of Latvia as a series of 10 sessions. These sessions explore in practice how an artistic and participatory process can create new opportunities for people with Parkinson’s disease and those who accompany them.
