ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
What is coincidence and what is staged?
When does a performance actually begin? And are you sure it has not already started?
"unannounced" is a sequence of unexpected events that blurs the boundaries between the inside and outside of theatre, between what is happening and what seems not to be happening, between the stage and the wings. Six performers invite the audience on a mysterious journey beyond the visible, outside the familiar and toward a space that gradually turns into a labyrinth.
Wordless guides draw attention to seemingly insignificant details that flicker briefly and disappear just as quickly. The everyday becomes extraordinary, while the line between observer and event grows increasingly unclear and conditional.
After the success of the performance "carry on" in 2023, the company fieldworks and choreographers Heine Avdal and Yukiko Shinozaki return to Latvia with a work centred on theatrical space and its materiality.
In their characteristic playful and subtle aesthetic, fieldworks explores how we perceive time, space and presence. Combining innovative sound composition, movement, light, and techniques from theatre and silent film, the artists create a multilayered, physically tangible experience, one in which anticipation of the future meets the last shimmer of the past.
In Latvia, the performance is presented in collaboration with Dailes Theatre by the dance organisation Tuvumi. Its founder, Krišjānis Sants, who has collaborated with fieldworks for many years, is also one of the performers.
Especially for Latvian audiences, the choreography and direction have been adapted to the spaces of Dailes Theatre, a complex, multilayered and secret city-like environment that only a few get to know in everyday life.

FEEDBACK
The magazine TANZ writes about the performance: "With the performance ‘unannounced’, the company fieldworks has created a smart work about theatre that reflects the multifaceted interconnections between text and space, set design, audience and stage. The inventive lighting and sound artists have added their own, rather specific, view of things. And although the performance does not shy away from stage effects and at times reaches the heights of orgy, if not of hell itself, the work as such remains restrained. This is thanks to the delicate humour and the performers’ warm restraint."
The German media outlet Ruhrbarone writes: "‘unannounced’ happily jumps back and forth, but without unnecessary fuss. Events unfold simply. It is an incredibly clever performance that always has a surprise in store. fieldworks does not shy away from using various theatrical techniques, but handles their effects so masterfully that they never become intrusive. Our perception does not vanish when we leave the auditorium; it stays with us outside as a slightly unreliable partner, always dependent on what we expect, what we direct our attention to, or do not direct it to. Let us be honest - ‘unannounced’ is simply a superb performance."
