Creative Workshop – “Decal”

At the Riga Porcelain Museum in October 2026, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 11:00 to 18:00, visitors are invited to the educational workshop “Decal”.

October in the creative workshop of the Riga Porcelain Museum is dedicated to an in-depth introduction to one of the most popular porcelain decoration techniques today, the decal. A practical session is offered, where anyone interested can try their hand at decal application by creating their own unique decal compositions on glazed porcelain items. The museum workshop offers decal sheets with ready-made designs, ornaments, animal and plant motifs, as well as colored decal sheets from which one can cut out their own shapes and silhouettes and create unique compositions on dishes.

Decals are transfer images made with ceramic paint, which is fixed onto the item by firing it in a kiln at a temperature of around 600 C° to 800 C°. After firing, the dishes can be safely used every day, and the decoration is durable. The finished item can be collected at the museum within two weeks after the workshop. During the workshop, participants will be able to learn the basics of porcelain decoration and composition, gain new knowledge about different decoration techniques, and try them in practice.

The museum invites visitors, both individually and together with relatives, friends, or colleagues, to try their hand at porcelain art by choosing a simpler or more complex decoration technique!

Families with children from the age of 7, young people, seniors, as well as people with mobility impairments are especially invited to take part in the workshop. The workshop will be led by museum educators Vita Lukstiņa and Astra Ratkeviča.

The participation fee for the workshop is EUR 5.50 to EUR 19.10, depending on the value of the item chosen for decoration.
