RESURRECTION

the resurrection of a human being

It is commonly thought that Tolstoy is boring and preachy. Yet behind the thickness of the pages lies a very clear and vivid human story.

In youth we are full of primal dreams, but as we grow older we more and more often agree to live "as is customary" - choosing the easiest path, silencing our conscience, and gradually forgetting ourselves. This is what happens to Prince Nekhlyudov too. Once, he commits a betrayal, trampling over his first love and another person's fate. Years later, a chance meeting makes him look back and try to mend what seemed broken forever. This is a story about the strength of the human spirit and about the fact that it is never too late to return to yourself.
