A Morning for Seniors with Photographer Inta Ruka

• 📅Friday, 30 October, 11:30 AM–1:00 PM
• 🎟️Participation fee: museum admission ticket

🗣️ The event will take place in Latvian

The Zuzeum Art Museum invites you to a relaxed morning dedicated to conversations about contemporary art, in the exhibition “Turn Away Your Gaze. Women Artists in the Zuzāns Collection: 2000–2026”. The exhibition focuses on contemporary women artists and their works created in the first two decades of the 21st century, forming a unique collective biography of this period. It brings together more than 40 works by women artists living in Latvia, the Baltic states, and elsewhere in the world, whose authors are represented in the Zuzāns Collection.

We will begin the morning with a tour led by an art mediator. Photographer Inta Ruka will then talk more about the photographs on view in the exhibition, how they were created, and the human stories behind them. At the end of the morning, we invite you for tea and conversation in the Zuzeum Living Room, in a calm, informal atmosphere, sharing impressions and reflections on what you have seen in the exhibition.

Inta Ruka (b. 1958) is a Latvian photographer. She studied at the VEF photo studio and the Ogre photo studio. She creates her works in series. She consistently works in black-and-white photography and portraiture, focusing on the residents of specific areas and their life stories. Her extensive series My Rural People (1983–1998), which documented the lives of the inhabitants of homesteads in the Balvi district over nearly 20 years, was shown in the Latvia Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1999). Her series People I Met (1999–2004) and Amālijas iela 5a (2004–2008) are dedicated to the residents of Riga. In 2011, Inta Ruka was nominated for the Purvītis Prize for the exhibition Amālijas iela 5a.

Seniors are especially welcome, but other interested visitors are also warmly invited, regardless of age. We look forward to seeing you!
