CULT OF THE OLD ONES
No one knows when the Cult of the Old Ones was founded or when it will disappear. It is not tied to any year or any place. Every gathering is a continuation of what was begun by time and the Holy Skin. Some claim the movement appeared only recently, others say its roots go back to ancient times. Many sources remain silent.
The movement is built on a community that has turned toward aging and mortality not only as a nuisance, but also as a path to awakening and peace. For life is short and ends in death. Its followers are convinced that old age is a portal to a different state of consciousness and that the passage from being into nonbeing is the very meaning of existence.
Those who join the movement will not be promised answers. It will be a gathering without borders, at once a prayer, a conversation, a song, and a contemplation. Participation will not be required, but upon entering the space, participation will already have taken place.
Founders of the cult: Mārcis Broks, Dace Everss, Ģirts Krūmiņš, Edgars Mākens, Katrīna Neiburga, Iveta Pole, Ilmārs Šlāpins, Regnārs Vaivars
Testimonies of some members of the Cult of the Old Ones:
“My name is Katrīna Neiburga, I am 47 years old, and in 23 years I will be 70. I want to look forward to that moment with joy.”
“My name is Iveta Pole, I am 44 years old. In Buddhism, old age is considered suffering, but I do not want to suffer. I want to meet my wrinkles in peace, without fear of becoming old and unnecessary in a world that worships youth.”
“My name is Edgars Mākens, I am 48 years old. Middle age is already here, and old age has now become something quite concrete. I am looking for a way to come to terms with it.”
