Pool Sessions for People with Disabilities
The Riga City Council Department of Welfare, in cooperation with Rimi Olympic Centre, invites residents in October to attend free “Pool Sessions for People with Disabilities” (visual and hearing impairments) aged 16 and over.
The sessions will take place in the Small and Large Swimming Pools of the Rimi Olympic Centre and will be led by certified trainers Marita Kalniņa and Adelīna Priedniece.
The sessions are specifically designed to promote opportunities for people with visual or hearing impairments to actively participate in physical activities and feel safe while receiving support from professional trainers.
The sessions last 45 minutes and will be held separately for people with visual impairments and people with hearing impairments. To ensure full participation, a sign language interpreter will also take part in the sessions for people with hearing impairments.
During the sessions, the abdominal, back and deep muscles, as well as the cardiovascular system, are strengthened, and the functioning of the metabolic and respiratory systems is improved. Although water creates natural resistance, the exercises are easier to perform than in a gym because water reduces unnecessary strain and provides greater support for the body. Thanks to the properties of water, the range of motion in water-based sessions is wider than on land, making it possible to perform a broader range of exercises. In this way, participants are given the opportunity not only to improve their health, but also to enhance their quality of life by combining the joy of movement with an inclusive environment.
- 👉Registration for the sessions is mandatory
